I am a self-motivated, life-long learner who enjoys diving into the past.  My first career was in education as a high school social studies teacher.  In 2011, I started on a new career path that combines archaeology, historical research, cultural heritage preservation, and GIS.

In 2005 I was part of an Earthwatch volunteer group participating in an excavation in the village of Ban Non Wat, Thailand as part of the "Origins of Angkor" research team.   I returned to volunteer there for the next 6 years, and more recently I have participated in excavations at a nearby site, Non Ban Jak, part of the same research program.  I have also been part of excavations at Fort Popham and Newcastle, Maine.  These experiences led me to the decision to return to school to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to use GIS in archaeology.

Recently I became an intern in the New Bedford Whaling Museum's Digital Initiative's Department.  There I planned, researched, and authored a Story Map about the voyage of Horatio Hathaway, a New Bedford merchant in the China Trade, from New York to China and back in 1850-1851.  It has not yet been made public, but will be soon.

I live in midcoast Maine with my two sons, three cats, and one rabbit.  Besides archaeology and history, I enjoy traveling, gardening, sailing, cooking, and seeing live music.
